History of Elfed High School
Elfed High School was opened in 1954 and named after Hywel Elvet Lewis, the famous Welsh bard and scholar who died on 10th December 1953.
The school was a secondary modern school for thirteen years until 1967 when it became a Senior Comprehensive School, serving students between the age of 13 and 18 from a wide catchment area including Hawarden, Saltney and Hope. In 1973, the school became fully comprehensive for students from 11 to 19 years.
Elfed High School now has 800 students on roll, from the Buckley area. It is fed by four main primary schools:
- Mountain Lane, Buckley
- Southdown, Buckley
- Westwood County Primary, Buckley
- Drury County Primary
In 2014 the school and community celebrated the 60th Anniversary with a series of events involving students, former students and the wider community.
