“I feel my son’s transition from primary to secondary school was handled very well, thus enabling him to settle in very quickly and well.” Parent Perception Survey

Thank you for your interest in our ‘Smooth Move to Elfed’ Transition Programme. We are looking forward to meeting you and your child at Elfed High School.

We have an excellent reputation for providing our new students and their parents/carers with a smooth and successful transition from primary school to secondary school.

We work very closely with the headteachers and staff of primary schools on a range of transition activities.  These help students feel at home and help them to settle quickly. We will work with you to help your child feel happy and confident and reach their true potential at Elfed High School.

Once your child has started in Year 7 our Elfed Extra Families activities will help you and your child settle in.

Here is the Transition Programme for 2016 – 2017 involving pupils from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6.

These activities are part of a planned approach to transition as set out in the Buckley Mynydd Isa Consortium Transition Plan .

Elfed High School

Parents, carers and students are invited to the Open Day in October, to see the facilities and meet students and staff.  We are always pleased to welcome visitors to the school, so please call us to make an appointment.

The next Open Day is in October 2017.  Visit the ‘News’ section for photos and news about last year’s Open Day.

There are two induction days in July when all new students spend time getting to know one another and meeting their teachers before they start school in September. Students are allocated to teaching groups and tutor groups are on the basis of personal and assessment information passed on to us from the primary schools. We put close friends together, whilst keeping a mix of ability in every class.

All parents and carers of new students are invited to the Welcome Evening in May when they learn more about the timing of the school day, what to wear, the curriculum and other aspects of life at the school.

In May and June we run a series of informal ‘Smooth Moves’ sessions for new students and their parents, helping them to get to know one another. Sometimes parents like to share their memories of high school life and to find our how things have changed over the years.  Details of the Smooth Moves sessions are available from school in the spring.  Here is a booklet we have produced for parents and carers of children in Primary School.
